The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will resume airshow appearances this weekend, with the Lancaster having been cleared to fly and granted its Public Display Authority.
The squadron – dedicated to honouring the history of the Royal Air Force – had been grounded ever since a fatal Spitfire crash in May, which claimed the life of Sqn. Ldr. Mark Long.
The Merlin-engined fighters – two Hurricanes and several Spitfires – remain grounded while investigations continue. However, the Lancaster is able to return to the airshow circuit and work is ongoing to put the Flight’s Griffon-engined Spitfires back in the air as soon as possible.
The Lancaster will perform at the Blackpool Airshow and the Shuttleworth Family Airshow this weekend, before embarking on a full calendar of events for the rest of the season.
