The Sywell Airshow is being re-launched in 2024, following a decade-long hiatus, with the first participants already being announced.
Scheduled to be held on the 22nd-23rd June, the Sywell Airshow is a collaboration between the airfield management and locally-based warbird operater Ultimate Warbird Flights. It therefore comes as no surprise that the first batch of aircraft announced for the show – P-47D Thunderbolt “Nellie II”, L-12A Electra Junior G-AFTL and Hurricane Mk.I P2902 – are all operated by Ultimate Warbird Flights or its sister company, Fighter Aviation Engineering.
Later announcements included Spitfire Mk.XVI “Porky II” from The Suffolk Spitfire and the F8F-2P Bearcat of The Fighter Collection. Announcements are continuing at least one per day.
The organisers have promised a “remarkable airshow” featuring “multiple classic aircraft from across Europe alongside modern jets.”
They said: “The flying line up will include formation and unique display acts, some of which will be UK firsts. Added to that will be special photographic opportunities for the enthusiasts, stalls, a fairground and many more fun things to do.”
The airshow poster inclues several of the aircraft already announced, as well as French-based P-51D Mustang “Miss AVA”, Fighter Aviation Engineering’s Fury FB.11 and the RAF Red Arrows.
It is not clear whether this year’s show is a one-off, or whether the intention is to re-establish it as an annual event.
