The Snowbirds are to fly with eight aircraft for “the foreseeable future” after a pilot was charged with sexual assault.

Military police investigators charged Maj. Steven Hurlbut, Snowbirds 9, over an alleged incident that occured in Barrie, ON, in mid-June. The victim was another member of the Canadian Armed Forces. The case will now be handled by the civilian justice system, with a first hearing due on Monday 21st June.

Maj. Hulburt has been grounded and moved to non-operational duties while another pilot is trained up to take his position, according to City News.

With a scheduled appearance in Moncton, NB, cancelled due to poor weather, the Snowbirds’ next scheduled display is also on Monday, in Gander, NL. Their season continues until early October.
