A collaboration between warbird rides company AeroLegends and North Weald event venue The Squadron will see the famous Fighter Meet airshow return on the 27th-28th August 2023.
The original Fighter Meet ran from 1984 to 1997, attracting a range of current and historic combat aircraft, but it has been many years since a full-scale airshow was held at North Weald.
The Squadron planned to revive Fighter Meet in 2022, promising static displays and engine runs, but ultimately cancelled the event. A fresh attempt is now being made, which is slated to involve “Best of British flying displays with outstanding static vintage aircraft exhibits, passenger flights, high calibre entertainment and refreshments.”
The extent of the flying display has not been made clear; it could be hampered by commercial and residential developments around the airfield, and London Stansted’s controlled airspace which begins at just 1,500ft. However, the involvement of AeroLegends is promising, given the company already run their own successful Battle of Britain Airshow at Headcorn, which includes an impressive four-hour flying display.
Adult tickets start at £25 per day or £39 for the whole weekend, and are only available in advance through the show’s website. Half price child tickets and family packages are also available.
