The TIF Film Unit is leading the way with affordable air-to-air filming using lightweight drones uniquely able to operate in an airshow environment.

Air-to-air filming traditionally uses manned cameraships – something we are capable of doing. But while the results are spectacular in a polished promotional video, they have limited utility; it is expensive, not suitable for live broadcasting, and not generally practical to use in an airshow environment.

Our solution, in partnership with the Aerosparx Display Team, has been to bring drones into the airshow environment for the first time. Our drones operate just outside the display area, recording dramatic wide-angle aerial shots of the action – but with pilots who are suitably qualified and experienced, we have been able to choreograph sequences that bring the drones inside the aerobatic box, operating just feet away from the display aircraft, with spectacular results.
