BREAKING: Black Eagles accident at Singapore Airshow

An aircraft of the Republic of Korea Air Force Black Eagles aerobatic team has crashed at Changi Airport while participating at the nearby Singapore Airshow. The accident occurred at 13:24 local time on Tuesday 6th February.

The aircraft was taking off for its display on Runway 20R when it crashed on the ground and burst into flames. Eyewitnesses report the aircraft suffered a tyre burst and began to decelerate before veering off the runway and overturning. The Airport Emergency Service swiftly extinguished the fire.

The pilot escaped with minor injuries and has been sent to the airport clinic for a check-up. His identity remains unconfirmed but the aircraft involved appears to be the #6 opposing solo jet.

The Black Eagles cancelled their display immediately and an investigation has been launched by the Republic of Korea Air Force. They have withdrawn from the rest of the show and the remainder of the flying schedule has been updated accordingly.

The stricken jet was removed from the runway after 18:00 and the runway reopened after a thorough inspection. Some delays to commercial air traffic occurred, with one flight being delayed by around four hours. A total of 170 flights were affected.

The Black Eagles fly eight KAI T-50B Golden Eagles in their display – single-seat supersonic advanced jet trainers, made in Korea. They have displayed to much acclaim in the United Kingdom, Malaysia, China and at the last two editions of the Singapore Airshow.
