SYWELL | The Blades Aerobatic Team, an elite British team formed of former Red Arrows pilots, is to head to the United Arab Emirates for the first time this year.
The team announced today that their visit, which was a year in the planning, will run from late October until mid-December. The team will be based at the Abu Dhabi Sports Aviation Club Kizad Airfield, located between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and will be offering passenger experience flights over both cities.
Team Leader and Blade 1, Andy Evans, said: “This is our first visit to the United Arab Emirates and is an exciting development in our operational capability. Since the team launched in 2006, it has been an ambition to visit the country and offer passengers the thrill of close formation aerobatic flying close to the beautiful skylines of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.’’
The team will also be displaying at the Dubai Airshow, according to the event’s website. The show will be held on the 17th-21st November.
Earlier this year, the Royal Aeronautical Society said that The Blades had ambitions to “go global”, taking their aerobatic airline business to the Middle East and USA during the winter months, when little flying takes place in Britain. They are also due to upgrade to the GameBird GB1 for the 2019 season, although their visit to Abu Dhabi will see the team continue to use their fleet of Extra 300s.
