Lucky escape for airshow pilot who crashed into lake

LAKE WOLFGANG |An Austrian aerobatic pilot escaped with minor injuries when he crashed in a lake on Monday 4th February.

The 44-year-old pilot was performing an aerobatic display near Salzburg in a Staudacher S-600 aerobatic plane. Video footage shows him performing a low turn over the water when his wing touched the surface. He then appeared to lose control of the aircraft, which splashed down onto the lake a few seconds later.

The pilot escaped unhurt and was taken to hospital for examinations. His plane has been pulled from the water.

We have chosen not to identify the pilot, who has not been officially named.
