KOKSIJDE | The Belgian Air Force will host a spottersday event to mark the retirement of their ageing Westland Sea King Mk.48 helicopters next month.
The helicopters have already participated in a farewell tour over the summer, finishing with a display at the Belgian Air Force Days event in Kleine Brogel. Now, an exclusive spottersday has been planned at Koksijde Air Base on Wednesday 9th January ahead of the final retirement of the Sea King in March 2019.
The event will start just after midday, with flying activities begining at 13:45 local time. This will include a Search and Rescue demonstration and flypasts by aircraft from the Belgian Air Force. On the ground, there will be a photoshoot involving a Sea King and NH90. The event ends at 20:00.
Just 250 places are available, priced at €20 each. Those interested in attending can sign up here.
The Belgian Air Force has just three Sea Kings left in operation. The type has been in operation since 1976, amassing more than 60,000 flying hours. It will be replaced by the NH90-NFH.
